Review of Manderlay (2005) by Midhush I — 29 May 2008
Such a disappointment after the devastating and shocking Dogville. Bryce Dallas Howard somehow manages to be unbelievably soporific as Grace, and unfortunately, many of the morals and thinly veiled references to Iraq are laboured and heavy handed.
There is no progression with the characters, neither grace nor the slaves exhibit any changes in their characters, a feature which made Dogville such an affecting and shocking experienece, but which is completely absent in this film.
