Review of Manhattan (1979) by Chris C — 06 Sep 2012
The important thing in life is courage.
A New York city writer down on his professional luck doesn't seem to have a problem with the ladies. Despite being divorced, he's currently dating a seventeen year old and later dates his best friend's former mistress. The New Yorker is in his 40s and is trying to decide where his happiness lies. Can it really be with a kid?
"You think you're god.".
"I have to model myself after someone.".
Woody Allen, director of Annie Hall, Midnight in Paris, Scoop, Match Point, The Curse of the Jade Scorpion, and Sleeper, delivers Manhattan. The storyline for this picture is very fun, the character development is excellent and the script is brilliant. The acting was also beautiful and the cast delivers amazing performances. The cast includes Woody Allen, Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep, Michael Murphy, and Mariel Hemingway.
"What do you do, Tracy?".
"I go to high school.".
Manhattan was a film I came across while flicking through the channels and decided to DVR since I have been watching Allen pictures lately. I loved this plot and thought Woody Allen was brilliant as the main character. I loved his interaction with each character and his demeanor was perfect throughout the film. I also love this brand of comedy and adore his dry humor. I strongly recommend seeing this picture.
"I'm dating I girl when I could beat up her father!".
Grade: A.
