Review of Mao’s Last Dancer (2009) by Hazel M — 02 Nov 2009
I would've preferred if they told the story in order... but I can see why they keep jumping back and forth in time, to effectively utilise the memories in his current situation and such. Honestly though, I just thought Lee or Li.
.. was incredibly selfish. He didn't stay in America for love, he just wanted to stay for his own freedom. His family was second on his priority list. So even if he had nightmares about his family getting shot, I couldn't find any sympathy for him.
I can't comment whether or not this was a fair adaptation of the book because I haven't read it.
