Review of Mars Attacks! (1996) by Erik R — 31 Aug 2014
I've always wanted to like Burton more than I typically do. Mars Attacks is essentially a few small islands of inspired genius in a big sloppy wet mess of a movie that makes the classic parody blunder of being too much like the things that we're supposed to be making fun of.
The disaster movie trope of having too many characters for instance, isn't made more fun by taking it to a new extreme. Get the Cliff's Notes version on YouTube. The alien language in particular is worth hearing at least once.
But I honestly don't think most will feel like it was an hour and 46 minutes well-spent to see the whole silly thing.
