Review of Mary Queen of Scots (2018) by Philip M — 24 Jan 2019
To all those critics arguing the film to be historically classed and not to their liking you are clearly missing the beauty of this film. Of course parts of the film are exaggerated and one scene in particular is not historically correct.
But what historical based film is fully historically accurate? Are films about the Holocaust true to the events? I think not. Are the representations of American Slavery accurate? I think not. The producers of this film did a marvellous job and the actors and actresses their roles proud.
David Tennant is by far the most realistic and historically correct portrayal of John Knox I have yet to see and both Queens were presented justly and in their glory. The majority of the film captivated the true lives of the two Queens and their positions of strength and weakness in the most realistic and great portrayal.
The including of the wars of the congregation and factional rivalry demonstrated that not only did the film producers wish to portray the romanticised plot of Elizabeth vs Mary or the conflict of Knox and Mary.
But to portray social, political, religious differences between all the individuals involved within this historical period. A truly remarkable film and both queens and the portrayal of Knox deserve special recognition for a marvellous film.
Well done. Highly recommended.
