There's enough wit and quirkiness to make this one of the most enjoyable coming-of-age films. the casting was surprisingly appropriate and didn't need much to bring the characters alive. yes, I personally dread any stories that involve chronic illness and suffering, but I had to say I'm glad I sat thru the unexpected friendship that emerged between the protagonist and the dying girl.
