Review of Me and Orson Welles (2008) by Patrick L — 29 Jan 2013
10/10 How's that for a review? Starting out with the review indicator first then writing the review?
Me and Orson Welles is a film that I picked out, if somewhat reluctantly, largely for Clair Danes and perhaps Richard Linklater who has made some enjoyable films, two of my favorites in fact! The cast is really good, a really good ensemble, even if I knew/knew of only two of the actors (Efron and Danes).
Danes is luminescent here, as she is in other roles she has acted, and one hopes that she'll see the light and appreciate her younger lover. She probably does but is too world-weary to make a stand.
Efron was the surprise for me as was the actor who plays Welles...I think once or twice I sensed what was going to happen but I don't consider that due to the fault of predictably but more due to the way that Linklater directs - he gives things for the audience to anticipate and is perhaps my favorite director for that alone. He may not have the power of Spielberg or Lucas but he directs far more satisfying films, in my considered opinion.
The dvd may not have spectacular animation but I think it is largely the best at satisfying a movie lover's curiousity about the film and Orson Welles.
I highly recommend this film then checking out Orson Welles works, as I intend to do....
