It's a little sad that people's brains have been so warped by "Super-Hero" films that they see every movie through this sensationalist lens and miss the forest for the tree. This is, at its core, a movie about science and how it drives us to the literal "depths" of knowledge.
People who like to turn their brains off during movies need not apply because Meg 2: The Trench rewards those who who will see past the great acting and incredible special effects to uncover a humbling statement about how the power of Nature dwarfs that of Mankind.
