Review of Melancholia (2011) by Steve A — 28 Dec 2017
If you're in the mood for something different, give "Melancholia" a go.
If the first 2-3 minutes don't do it for you, please stick with it as that style rarely returns (although I like it). It's low on dialogue and high in uncomfortable sentiment. A very unsettling yet beautifully presented film that leaves you thinking long after the credits roll. Kirsten Dunst proves again that she's miles above her "Spider-Man" role.
Also stars Kiefer Sutherland and John Hurt.
Dir. Lars von Trier (2011).
Genre Comment: Believable sci-fi concept with strong depression vibes. Family dysfunction.
