Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt has a new mission: To save the world from a potentially weaponized AI. Of course, the plot's secondary to the action and there's plenty here. Most of the chases and fights are well-staged with Cruise performing some crazy-reckless stunts.
The closing train sequence is the most gripping scene this year. Thanks to Christopher McQuarrie's taut direction, even the exposition dialogue has a compelling tension (and doesn't go on too long). They promised exciting thrills and this delivers, but we'll have to wait a year for Part Two.
