Review of Moonfall (2022) by Zodwraith — 27 Apr 2023
This is a solid 4 but only on the plot. This story had so much potential but feels like it was handled by a team completely incapable of doing the plotline justice. Scenes that should be intense are just eye-rollingly over the top. Scenes meant to be heartfelt feel forced and cheesy. Scenes that can only done in CGI are obviously on a paltry budget and green screens.
I watched this as I enjoy the "what if?" of disaster movies and that aspect of the movie is terrible with realism completely thrown out the window, amateur special effects, and plot holes big enough to drift a bus sideways through.
Acting is from stiff to passable with the main 3 roles being the only ones that seem to have actually read the script, with a tiny ray of hope in Donald Sutherland's cameo.
Pacing is a complete mess being one of biggest offenders having random things thrown at you left and right in nonsensical ways. This is one of the worst edited movies I've seen in a long time.
If it's free go ahead and watch it but curb your expectations of what should have been a spectacle if done by a real production company. To be fair I was expecting worse coming from Tencent AKA the CCP. Of course you only get to see the US getting destroyed while China's only role was offering help.
