Review of Moonlight (2016) by Count_M — 27 Mar 2017
Let's get on with the big elephant in the room : yes the SJW propaganda affected this movie's score by critics . it's a really good movie but not 99/100 stuff . being a woman or a black person or a homosexual brings you immediate sympathy and bias these days . now imagine what would happen if you have 2 of those traits at once ! in another world (a more sane world) this movie would've easily been considered racist .
Now about the movie itself : this is a serious movie about serious matters . it's about how a series of important and dramatic events and situations can affect someones life . the movie is divided in 3 periods of a black boy's life and we see how his life changes in a period based on what happened to him in the previous one . it's a really solid drama with some Oscar-bait features like long stills and silences .
Pros of this movie are its fantastic directing , a really strong performance by Mahershala Ali (even though he was only in 1 period) and a touching story .
Not any noticeable cons except the racism (YES , RACISM . you can call it reverse-racism or whatever) . but again , not the best-scored-movie-in-history material . it's not even closely in the same league .
