Review of Moonrise Kingdom (2012) by Andrew B — 13 Mar 2018
Charming and eccentric, moonrise kingdom is an adorable movie with yet another strong ensemble performance from Wes Anderson and company. This story of young love is particularly well-suited to Wes Anderson's nuanced, comedic style--most evident in the militarized scouting troop.
The plot goes off the rails a bit in the third act but is largely forgiven by the strong quality of the performances. The two leads, Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward, are a refreshing twist in Wes Anderson's well established world of misanthropic genius smokers--the quirky innocence of these unfamiliar actors draws in audiences into a very nostalgic tale of what should have been.
