Review of Mud (2013) by Elijah C — 23 Jul 2015

The best way to summarize the movie "Mud" is powerful, thought provoking, real, sad, drama. This movie is good to the point that I have to see it again very soon. Now this film is carries by magnificent acting and smart realistic dialogue.

With limited action the movie uses its dramatic effects to carry it throughout which is a tough thing to do sometimes but is almost perfectly used. While watching this film you'll feel invested in these characters especially the chemistry between the kids in this film and the character Mud.

These scenes with the three of them are powerful and entertaining what topics these characters are exploring. I have to say the kids in this film are phenomenal like really phenomenal. Only mature well trained actors can accomplish the chops what these two kids performed in this film.

Speaking of performances Matthew M. is so outstanding in this film as Mud with his scene stealing performances of breakdowns and signs of him being scared and find a real humanity to his character. Moving on the plot is absolutely original and intriguing at the same time.

With other sub plots that fits in to this cohesive. "Mud" also fits in underline messages of growing up and living in the real life world. The third and final act the movie tales a huge turn to become an action movie that is yeah entertaining but in my opinion unnecessary.

Yeah I know it pulls the plot along but I felt that it should have been left out of the movie all together. There are some problems in this film which is the overdrawn runtime of the film. Also, the movie is too predictable towards the end.

The movie is sort of messy towards again the ending with overstuffing of the plots to cram all in one time. And the second half of the film slows down and sort of gets boring after a little. Overall, "Mud" is a great film that is story driven and uses real life lessons of honesty, loyalty, revenge, friendship, and love.

I will give "Mud" an well received A- grading!
