Review of Murder on the Orient Express (1974) by Siarra F — 02 Oct 2008
As with most whodunits, the fun here is not in discovering who the murderer is but the processing of discovering him (or her or them). Sidney Lumet takes a screenplay with a lot more dialogue than one usually sees and keeps it interesting.
This is especially miraculous when you consider that the film basically consists of repetitions of the same elements: interviews with the suspects and ticking them off the list during the long revelation of Poirot's during the final act.
This movie also has one of the most well done (as well as one of the grisliest and surreal) murder scenes I've ever witnessed. Don't watch it if you prefer nonstop action, but if you like intelligent dialogue and dry humor, this would be a movie to see.
