Review of Mute (2018) by Jeff B — 25 Aug 2018
This is a movie that gets too mired in the morbid than in good story telling. Another sci-fi dystopia (ho hum), but not even a half decent one. So what's the message? You've got two ex-military low lifes who get their just desserts in the end while the little girl is set to a better life by her morally superior mute friend (of course he survives and gets the evil guys. Surprise. Not!). And of course, there's a seedy underbelly to this futuristic world (wow! what a surprise? How many times have we seen these sets? Too many) lending the viewer a sense of hopelessness and dread about the future.
There's really no redeeming value to this film, other than lots of gore and slow, bloody death for the sick minded who like that kind of thing. Oh yeah, robot sex too. Great stuff. NOT~!
