Review of Mute (2018) by Christian W — 25 Feb 2018
I get why most Americans don't understand this movie. I'm an American myself so yeah. I get it. I'll break it down for you all as best I can. You won't like it. I know you won't like it before I even type it out. But for whatever reason, I feel the need to explain it for those that possibly WANT to understand what this film was about.
Ok, at the end of Moon, we are left with Sam Rockwell's character going down to earth to confront humanity. To find out why they felt it was ok to do what they were doing to mine the moon. You are left with wanting to know what was so important that humans would just be completely ok with fucking over clones over and over again.
We now know, it was a world of selfishness and sin. Which makes complete sense for why what was going on up there, was a complete afterthought to most people on earth. They could have cared less so long as they kept their lifestyle.
Leo represents the one thing that is immune to that world. True love. Him being amish is really just a metaphoric tool to help the audience understand that throwing away that instant gratification is the answer for humanity.
So at this price we've seen the price man is willing to pay for gluttony. The third film will either be man's end, or man's redemption.
Or both.
Like I said, I know a ton of you will read it and just not understand it and that's ok. But it is what it is.
Personally, I dug it.
