Review of My Little Pony: The Movie (2017) by Rock L — 03 Dec 2018
There was an episode in the G1 cartoon where a lava villain called Lavan managed to gain immense power by stealing magic artifacts. That sounds badass, except his victory was only possible because the characters who were guarding those artifacts were bigger idiots than he was.
Had Megan or any of the other recurring characters been there, he would have been thwarted very easily. I bring this up because the G4 movie is almost exactly like that G1 episode. It had an incompetent villain gaining immense power because the heroes were being stupid.
The only major differences are G1's Princess Ponies were incompetent to begin with whereas G4's Mane Six were gripping the idiot ball throughout this film, and Lavan at least had the decency of facing his enemies himself instead of sending his moronic underlings to do it all for him.
Also, on that note, am I the only one who thinks Tempest's motivation makes no sense? "If you depend on others, you'll never find your place," she says, while depending on the Storm King to fix her horn for her when he gets the alicorns' power.
