Review of My Scientology Movie (2016) by Simon T — 11 Feb 2017
It's Louis Theroux' bad luck that Alex Gibney got there first with the superb Going Clear. However, given that he was offered no access he chooses to concentrate on investigating the psychology of the deeply divisive Scientology cult, in particular its psychotic leader David Miscavige, by interviewing former high-ranking Scientologists and organising dramatic reconstructions of notorious events.
That he manages to find mordant humour too is testament to his continuing skills as a documentary maker.
