Review of No Escape (2015) by Elijah C — 04 Sep 2015

I was looking forward to 'No Escape' when I first saw the trailer and I was hooked like a fish on a rod. Now after watching the movie I must say...it was decent. Yeah it was decent that was surprise for me because of the 40% critic rating and mediocre reviews on YouTube.

But when I was watching the movie I was entertained and in some ways impressed. Ok lets get to the positives in this film first before we get into the nitty gritty of the overall film. Now I can say the acting is spot on good.

The action is decent. But the movie has a good amount of tension and suspense. The background music was really suspenseful as well that added tension to the film. The use of violence and blood was very realistic.

The tone was spot on dark and realistic. I was digging the first two acts of the film. It was fast paced, compelling, and entertaining. Now the negatives in this film is the poor cinematography. Action scenes were mostly in shaky cam or pointless slow motion.

And sometimes I even did not know what was going on in the fight scenes. The movie is very predictable. The plot is weak and by the numbers. Characters were undeveloped and shoe bared in. The family subplot in the movie was shoe bared in as well.

Everything in the movie was a coincidence like how the family spit the same group of people five times in five different areas. Dialogue is sometimes weak and un even. The third act was a down point in the movie.

It was a little rushed and drawn out. Overall, 'No Escape' is a decent action thriller that has some issues that can throw you off the movie a little. And it is also lead by stand out performances of Owen Wilson, Lake Bell, and Pierce Brosnan.

This is a light recommendation for either a Netflix watch or On Demand watch. So I will give 'No Escape' a B- grading.
