Review of Nope (2022) by Gamb1T66 — 10 Aug 2022
Nope is a beautifully shot film with lofty ambitions that ultimately falls short of its mark. While Jordan Peele showcases once again that he is a master of building tension, his latest offering is ultimately undone by pacing issues and undercooked subplots that fail to provide any payoff.
As a side note:
The critics were never going to be unkind to a Peele film out of fear risking the wrath of the internet. This is immediately apparent in the contrast between the critic and user scores. Was Peele's latest offering better than this year's legacy sequel Scream 5? Nope. I think critics need to devise and implement a universal scoring rubric as a guideline to ensure that films aren't punished in areas of excellence based purely on a biased view towards an existing IP or favouring certain directors or studios over others.
