Review of North (1994) by Matthew M — 28 May 2009
First off this movie has yet to be released on DVD even though it has many well known actors and actresses as well as a well known Director. This might be a hint as to what the people who made the film think of it if they do not even want it to be re released on DVD.
anyway the movie itself is basically shot in the mind of a 11 year old that is because the whole thing is some big elaborate dream. So that is why some points are so weird and bizarre that there is no way it could possibly be from this world.
I had to watch this on youtube because it was probably the best quality in that the VHS I would buy would probably be some ex rental in poorly kept condition or purchase a 15-20 dvd that is either a bootleg or region 2.
The film itself though is sometimes so random and the Bruce Willis voice over narration is kind of unimportant. Roger Ebert hated this movie so much he rips it apart it is pretty funny. The best thing I can say is that I can see kids liking it but in the end usually children films also reach for the adult but I think any person would hate it if they were not a kid watching it unless they really hated their parents even then they still might not like the picture.
I personally thought it was not as bad as I was thinking it was going to be but it really was a different kind of children's film.
