Review of Olaf's Frozen Adventure (2017) by Caitlin H — 21 Nov 2017
I did not like the 21 minute long Olaf's Frozen Adventure on Coco, for a few reasons. 1. Hardly a mention of Christmas, yet it clearly IS depicting Scandinavian Christmas, giving it every other name but! The message this short gave when paired with this film is that it IS acceptable to call other holidays like Day of the Dead by name, but not Christmas.
Not cool, Disney. At least have the decency and dignity to let the millions of people who DO enjoy Christmas hear its name spoken once in a while. 2. A lot of what was shown is not just Norwegian. Swedes, Finns, Danes and Icelanders also use these motifs, traditions, etc.
Please don't lump them altogether as generic bunad wearing Norwegians. 3. Too stinking long. 21 minutes is NOT a short. Air it on Thanksgiving on Disney channel if you must, not in front of a movie.
4. Elsa's brow-beating makes her annoying, not special. Next time, maybe you should do Moana in a short. She at least has courage, faces her fears and problems and is a good role model, instead of wailing about being the cause of why they have no family traditions.
Oi. It's pretty enough to make little tots ooh and aah, with a memorable tune, but lacks what Coco did have: heart. Lots of it!
