Review of Old Henry (2021) by Bertobellamy — 04 Jul 2023
Tim Blake Nelson deserved a movie like this. Always playing second in many films, the veteran actor finally has the opportunity to shine as a lead in this gritty western. The premise is simple: a farmer and his son rescue a shady guy who may or may not be who he claims to be, so they're forced to protect him and their home from a group of ruthless and greedy men.
You could see that this is the role that Blake Nelson probably waited for a long time. And although the story is as basic as it could be, it manages to develop briefly but effectively themes like honor, the nuances between good and evil, and the complicated relationship between a strict father and a headstrong son.
Oh, and just wait for the awesome twist ending.
