Review of On Chesil Beach (2018) by Scot C — 10 Jun 2018
Huh? I admit that I am not qualified to review this movie. But I would like to relate an experience my wife and I had after seeing the movie. Of course we went to see Saoirse Ronan.
During the movie I struggled with weariness and puzzled where to fit Edward's Dr. Marshmallow / Mr. Hyde personality into what became The Out-of-Towners version of first sex. There are obvious experience or emotional problems here I thought. Was he in pain? Was there a medical problem ? Oh I see. Gees you guys, just talk it out.
As we exited the movie (all 5 people were leaving) a woman says to my wife, "So are we to assume that her father molested her? ". My wife says, "I think so." Huh?
I missed a flashback experience Florence had during the intercourse sequence. But two people who saw the flashback wren't certain about what they saw. It was an important connection. As I said, I'm not qualified to review this movie. Like two ships passing in the night, in the dark theater, this movie and I didn't connect. My wife however saw the other ship passing by.
Saoirse you rock.
