Review of Once Upon a Time in America (1984) by Mrpajamas — 01 Jul 2023

I have somewhat mixed feelings about it. I'll start with the good. First of all, I was impressed by the soundtrack. I liked the repetitive music. Story-wise it wasn't bad either and there were some good moments, but then I remember the thing that slightly spoiled it for me and that was the length.

This movie comes in many versions. I saw the 3 hour and 49 minute long version. I have not seen a longer mafia movie and you could feel it. Towards the end, I was slowly losing interest and it was just getting too long for me.

To sum up my feelings. I liked the film. It did. But it wasn't the best mafia movie for me, and I've seen better. This one had its moments, but they didn't quite make up for the length of the film, which was really long.

So, in short. Great movie, but too long and I liked other mafia movies better, although this movie was great for me. I can recommend it to fans of the crime genre, but be prepared for a long slog with a slow pace.

It's not for everyone.
