Review of Ondine (2010) by Edith N — 21 Oct 2012
Fun, warm, humorous, simple enough not to get over complicated. I have nothing whatsoever to complain. The acting is great, the film is beautifully done, nice to see Dervla Kirwan, Colin Farrell and Alicja Bachleda.
The little girl played by Alison Barry is an essential part of this movie. What I liked about the film was its ending- once its nice to see a film that ends like this. That its not all crying, tears, alcoholism and whatever.
That the myth is not destroyed by ultra-"realism" but the film sort of opts for optimism. I liked it. Alicja Bachleda was great, too. Ok, so why not give it five stars? Well.. I sort of would have liked it even more had it a bit more edge.
I'm not saying this is a disney movie for children because its not, but its a bit softer and less complicated somehow than life. It was a bit like watching a family movie. Not that its a bad thing.
Its really well filmed.
