Review of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) by Keanex — 06 Oct 2020
When the movie finished, I was very confused as to why Jack didn't leave. I decided to read more into it, and it seems that the central theme was Jack generally being a selfish jerk, who has the realization that most people there are committed by their own free-will, and Jack softens up to help "free" them in a way.
The relationship between Chief and him is quite amazing, and now that I understand that Jack decided to stay to help the others, it makes me understand and respect the movie a lot more. It was something I missed, but am glad I read some further information on it.
The scene where Chief puts Jack out of his misery post-labotomy is as great as him finally escaping and breaking free from his mental concerns. The movie is well-acted and while it took some extra research to understand, that makes it even better.
It'll probably grow on me as the days go.
