Review of Orphan (2009) by Mir S — 28 Jul 2018
I was sceptical of this movie at first- another horror movie with an evil orphan/child? Uhg. But once I started watching and getting into it it became intrigueing. The amount of detail in this film is outstanding.
(Contains Spoilers... Kinda).
I'm an artist and when I saw the "orphan's" drawings I pointed out to my dad that they were odd. The faces were correctly proportioned but the heads/necks were overly disproportionate. Typically when a child gets to the point where they understand faces there's also more detail in everything else. (Think of it this way- most adults can't get the proportions of a face right, yet this "child" got them perfect?) It, to me, was a red flag. She was obviously drawing worse than she actually could!!
When her... inappropriate drawings are revealed later on, featuring naked figures draw perfectly, 100% lifelife, and it blew me away. That was such a slight detail but it added so much to the film.
Usually movies like this have a crappy twist with no leading clues up to it. Just a random twist that doesn't actually fit the story at all. But with "Orphan" this is not the case, it was made extremely well.
