Review of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) by Rtheom — 23 Mar 2018
Holy crud, this movie moves at breakneck speed. Be warned, if you don't have a pretty good memory of the events of the first movie, you will be left behind and lost very very quickly. If you are familiar, however, this is a pretty entertaining movie.
They crammed soooo much into this movie it's ridiculous. They easily could have made it 2 or even 3 movies and I kind of wish they had. An awful lot of scenes felt like they should have been three or four times as long, and there's barely a breath between drama, action and comedy. So be well prepared going into this.
Was I entertained? Yes, very much so. Was I overwhelmed? Yeah, a little. Do I want more? Yes, but please let the next one pace itself a little better. Solid 8 out of 10 if it had been at normal movie speed, -1 point for that.
Also, be aware that you're going into this for robot/monster smashing action. You're not going to find a deeply philosophical plot here, but that was never the purpose of Pacific Rim. In that area, it does quite well (although the ending feels a little bit anticlimactic, but I can live with it).
