Review of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) by Jared K — 25 Mar 2018
From the beginning, it's obvious that this is not going to be anything like the original film, and that will be the film's downfall for big fans of the first Pacific Rim. The colors are far more vivid, the line delivery is heavy on the silly side and the Jaegers are nimble, Power-Rangers-esque caricatures of their former selves.
While the plot holds a good amount of merit overall, the way it unfolds, mainly due to what could have been serious and well-paced reveals, being done as over-the-top soap opera twist moments. Some really cool battle moments and a few lines that hit home saved it from being a stinker and being a fine part of the franchise, but all-in-all this is the Hasbro commercial version of the first film.
