Review of Padmaavat (2018) by Sarah H — 10 Feb 2018
I made the misguided decision of agreeing to watch this, and I regret having spent three painful hours on what is essentially the most extravagant and drawn-out telling of a cockblock in cinematic history.
Shahid Kapoor, always a limited actor, is miscast in his role. It is atrocious that Ranveer Singh's over-the-top hamming is being hailed as a landmark performance. And I'm stunned that the always woke Deepika Padukone signed on for a film whose climactic moment features such a breathless, reverent glorification of a terrible practice.
The only highlight was the choreography.
