Review of Papillon (2017) by John Y — 08 Sep 2018
For the most part I have to agree with both Brian Tallerico & David Fontana: The 1973 Steve McQueen version was emotionally wrenching simply by virtue of tortured tedium--a truly dismal yarn even in book form with few of the redeeming qualities found in other long, expansive tales, such as moby-dick, war and peace, &c, it is wearisome in the extreme, and I never could see the value in glossing it in CELLULOID.
Given the original story, this was about as much as could be expected without transforming it into a wholly different narrative.
