Criticism of "Passengers" is overly harsh and a bit unfair. It's an entertaining Sci-fi/Romantic story that poses an interesting philosophical question: What if you found the love of your life, but in difficult circumstances?

Would it have been better for Aurora Lane to remain asleep until the spaceship Avalon arrived at destination, and miss out on the profound love she had with Jim Preston?

Or would she be better off accepting that by waking up early, she was condemned to spend the rest of her life on a spaceship, but with a love she would never have found on the destination planet Homestead II?

I opt for the latter.
