Review of Paths of Glory (1957) by Private U — 08 Jun 2008
Tense filmmaking from the very best, brilliantly directed with some top-notch characters. You can see where many of the ideas for Blackadder Goes Forth came from. WWI in the trenches, and the film follows Kirk Douglas in angry mode as he crosses No Man's Land and battles those in charge for the sake of humanity.
During the battle, you can almost imagine Kubrick crazily shooting at his own actors, demanding the perfect performance!
