Review of Pilgrimage (2017) by Bubba M — 13 Dec 2017
A group of monks in 13th century Ireland take a pilgrimage to Rome to protect an ancient and sacred artifact from Norman invaders and local warring tribes and that's the end of the story. There isn't really much else to it which isn't always a bad thing but this was missing something.
The film is beautifully shot and the action is suitably brutal but I didn't really care of the fate of any of the characters, I felt they needed better writing. This is mostly true of Jon Bernthal who is criminally underused in this film.
I kept waiting for his back story but it never came, always leaving his motivations a mystery. It was an ok film but instantly forgettable.
