Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) by Paul D — 28 Sep 2013
I know I'm in the minority here, but I feel this is clearly the best in the series. The story has a lot going on but not so much as to lose the audience, it deftly carries a number of characters and story lines without neglecting any, the special effects are incredible, some of the best in cinema, the new villain is very cool and original, the Kraken is just about the coolest thing in any movie, and the ending is off the charts awesome.
Does the right thing to do by sequels that will become a trilogy and really leaves the audience on a down note, but still leaves enough of a "Awww, yeah!" type moment to keep you excited for the third.
I really love this movie. Great action, great performances, great effects, and, as always, great direction from the consistently underrated Gore Verbinsky.
