Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) by Derek R — 06 Jan 2019
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides tries to return to the first film's roots with a simpler plot, a more low fantasy approach after the last two movies tried to be epic and a shorter runtime.
But though the action sequences are fun, Johnny Depp still shines as Captain Jack Sparrow and Ian McShane is entertaining in the role of notorious pirate Blackbeard, On Stranger Tides comes off as unneccessary, disjointed and forgettable with two lovers just being poor carbon copies of Will and Elizabeth.
Their presence is dearly missed here. Gore Verbinski as well, depending on your thoughts on the last two sequels.
