OK. This movie would only make sense if it came right after Burton's "Pee-wee's Big Adventure". Then it would be lauded for the courage of the studio to give the helms to an imaginative and nonconforming visionary.
And I would be like, "have you seen the new POTA, crazy good, a water-shed moment in sci-fi movie-making. Grown-up comedy". Nope. This was 2001. An established Burton remaking as established classic.
No go.
