Review of Platoon (1986) by Ryan Gibbons — 29 Apr 2011
Truly one of the most irritating pieces of garbage ever created. There are very few passable elements such as the confusion created during the battle scenes, Willem Defoe does a good job as Elias and Tom Berenger was a good Barnes.
Oliver Stone has continued to climb to the top as one of the worst and most overrated directors in the history of cinema with Orson Wells and Steven Spielberg. His directing in this film is clumsy and the screenplay was riddled with holes.
The characters are all the same, and it seems that if you make a movie about Vietnam, you win best cinematography. Platoon is just another blunder that Oliver Stone fan boys adore, Charlie Sheen's boyscout sounding narration was very funny.
