Review of Point Break (2015) by Acclamation — 11 Nov 2017
The original Point Break was about different ideals and different ways of living and viewing life, with surfing and government work as contrasting activities that advance and develop the characters. There were no “right” answers given in the first film. The viewer had to choose for themselves and it was a tough choice by the end of the film.
This Point Break not only has nothing to do with surfing, which its namesake is built upon, but the villains and protagonist of this new movie have the ideals of a typical American Leftist, and the only difference is that the protagonist is against mass murder in achieving the same ideals.
The characters aren’t believable in their “extreme sports” skills, and the shootout scenes and CGI (in some parts) are worse than usual.
If you are looking for something to hold your attention . . . I’d skip this version of Point Break entirely, put on the original instead and save this new version for a background, end-of-the party movie while everyone smokes some weed to wind the night down.
