Review of Poltergeist (2015) by Josh P — 13 Nov 2017
Not as terrible as most are saying.
Not as great as the first. Think -.
Poltergeist 8: the Valiant Re-tread.
It's half TV Movie , half decent suspense flick - it kicks into a nice stride for the last half with some solid effects, a drone, and some interesting ideas added. But for the most part its too little, too late.
The mom, the son, and little daughter are great - the rest are all over the place. Not even Sam Rockwell can find his footing here.
It felt like the writer and the director spent so much time trying to avoid too many similarities, that they could have really gotten away with making this an original interpretation by changing a few other key similarities, but sadly they attached themselves to the franchise and blew it. Not completely ruined, but it's a huge letdown that many couldnt get past.
Not bad for a time killer, but don't bother to seek it out unless you are in the mood.
The original watched for the hundredth time is still bigger, funnier, and adventurously nuanced, and far above this one. Tho they tried really, really hard.
Nothing significant is added -.
Still just above OK in my book.
3 windy closets out of 5.
