Review of Poltergeist (2015) by Sv G — 27 Jul 2016
Stop remaking classics if there is nothing new that can be added to the mix. This should be the credo above every studio entrance. And yet, here we have another remake. And just like most, not all, remakes as of late, it is pure trash.
The story follows a family that moves into a new house that was built on top of a graveyard. The film updates things slightly, mostly with technology, but the same plot beats are there. In terms of acting, everyone does well enough, but no one is given much.
The perfect example is Sam Rockwell, who looks like he's sleepwalking in every scene. Visually, there are some neat effects, mostly the practical ones. Unfortunately, we live in a digital age, so when the CGI effects pop in, they're noticeable, and they bring you right out of the film.
Thankfully, the film is swift, and it is paced fairly well, which means that this highly forgettable remake will be out of sight and out of memory very quickly.
