Review of Prey (2022) by Ajieiiika — 16 Aug 2022
I was waiting for the film with some hope, the first reviews from critics gave me confidence that the film would be at least good, but I was wrong. A hackneyed plot about growing up and overcoming oneself, which in this interpretation misses an important detail - you don't believe in the motivation of the characters, the viewer doesn't understand why they act this way and not otherwise.
There is no background for personages or history in general, which is somewhat depressing. Because of such a discrepancy in the plot, it is hard to believe what is happening on the screen, a fantastic alien can only be imagined as a decoration, "prey" for the main character, which could be replaced by any other dangerous wild beast or alien creature.
Everything looks somehow fake and unreal: the bad graphics are noticeable, the main character is too pretty for a formidable Indian warrior, the dialogues are stupid, and the predator plays the role of a whipping boy.
It seems that the film was shot by teenagers for teenagers, the story is immature and replete with cliches. Who is the target audience of this picture? Bloodshed, violence and other horrors will simply scare away children for whom this plot will fit.
