Review of Prick Up Your Ears (1987) by David Ray G — 27 Mar 2010
I was in my very early teens when I first attempted watching this movie, and I clearly remember stopping it at 6 minutes. The second time around, and much maturing later, I found it absolutely terrific.
Frears is a director who is capable of pulling unbelievably fantastic performances from every one of his actors - no matter if they are leading or secondary ones. Alfred Molina probably in one of the best roles of his career here. As for the ever-glorious Gary Oldman - I really cannot think of an actor who would have been a better Joe Orton in his shoes.
Partly reminiscent of Fassbinder, a tragic biopic of an even more tragic figure in what is one of the best movies of the late 1980's.
