A sharp script from Tony Gilroy, good direction from Hackford, and strong performances from Ryan, Crowe, and especially David Morse. It's strange that a movie almost entirely about hostage negotiating ends with a firefight rather than a hostage negotiation, but that's not really a problem so much as an observation.
