Review of Quantum of Solace (2008) by Jimmy P — 01 Sep 2014
The first proper direct-sequel to a Bond movie, Quantum of Solace is Daniel Craig's second outing as Bond and yet he proves to be more tougher than what the audience expects of him.
Olga Kurylenko and Gemma Arterton step in to play Bond's newest love interests: Camille ( Kurylenko ) and Agent Fields ( Arterton ). They're not the worst Bond Woman, but they're far from great: they mean absolutely nothing to the plot or what goes on in the movie, and their presence is just to fill up the extra running time of the scenes of Bond's assignments on foreign missions.
Quantum of Solace also focuses heavily on it's plot of some mysterious Quantum organization run by Mr White, who appeared briefly in Casino Royale and did business with the late Le Chiffre. The plot also focuses heavily on Bond's newest foe, Dominic Greene, played by Mathieu Amalric. A pointless Bond villain who we know hardly anything about and is the least person you'd expect for a main adversary for Craig's ruthless Bond. Amalric does deserve credit though for his take on the character.
It's nowhere near outdoing it's predecessor, but all the attention of the movie is focused on Craig who gives another relentless approach as Bond, and plays the part with invulnerability all the way to the very end.
