Review of Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018) by Joshua S — 30 Dec 2018
While Wreck-It-Ralph didn't need a sequel it certainly deserved one, being one of the better animated non-Pixar movies in recent years. Ralph Breaks the Internet is a diverting and charming follow-up that mostly hits the same beats and succeeds, but it lacks the stronger and tighter focus of its predecessor.
It's a visually arresting flick for children and adults, but ditches retro video game nostalgia for Disney and Internet tech company marketing tie-ins. Ugh. It still works, mostly due to the strong voice work of John C.
Reilly and Sarah Silverman and their humorous and endearing character interactions. Not the best animated feature of the year, but certainly far from the worst.
