Review of Rampage (2018) by Simon H — 24 Apr 2018

Unsurprisingly, there is no deep plot to this movie but it does exactly what it says on the tin (or the trailer). The action sequences are pretty cool but the antagonists are cringe worthy as they are lacking any sort of menace and are too 2D even for my liking.

I can take a 2D villain in such a movie but at least make them good. The fact that one villain has to continuingly explain their plan (and thus a poor mechanism to tell the audience what is happening) to the other is too tedious and is one of the biggest downfalls of the film.

Dwayne Johnson again shows his lack of acting variety but has enough to carry the movie given there's no need to have a complex character to drive it. I found Jeffery Dean Morgan more annoying, it was like watching Negan from the Walking Dead but without the sadistic behaviour; I think he needs to work on how to play more than one character.

Entertaining enough but far from brilliant.
