Review of Ratatouille (2007) by Amanda C — 11 Aug 2018
"Ratatouille", a comedy released in 2007 follows a rat who dreams of being a chef. He gets his wish when he encounters a young garbage man working in the most prestigious restaurant in Paris, who is in desperate need of his help.
For me, the film made me feel great and happy. Overall, the film is a very "feel good" movie. It is about someone following their dreams and succeeding at them, which is something that is great to watch and explore.
It made me think that it's nice to see a story of an unlikely hero succeeding. In terms of the story and writing, I felt that the film was incredibly well-done. I enjoyed that despite the father's distrust of humans, he chose to come through in the end and support Remy in his time of need.
Acting-wise I thought that the actors picked out for the voices of the characters was spot on. I especially loved Patton Oswalt's Remy. I felt that he added a sincerity to the character that really shone through.
Directed by Brad Bird, I felt that the shots chosen for the film were wonderful. I especially enjoyed the sequence when Remy gets distanced from his family and pulled down the sewage drain. It was such a great look into the world of a rat, and really set up Remy's misfortune before finding Linguine.
The sewage sequence was also a great example of the animation of the film. I felt like everything was so realistic, and the colors were beautiful and well done. Overall, I enjoyed the film! It's such a classic, and one that I can watch over and over again.
